Serial Codes

Postby fatmonk » Tue Oct 14, 2014 10:02 am

Is there any info available on the Serial Codes function?

After generating a list of codes and having the user enter a code when installing is there a way to access the code (and other registration info) that a user entered - maybe to set a registry value or to use as an argument for a bit of code (maybe an exe included in the installation) that could submit the registration info to a server somewhere?

I'm interested in using this feature, but other than generating codes and only accepting valid ones I can't see any other way to access the codes.

Thanks,

FM

I think I've worked this out...

This post has a list of constants available within InstallForge.

It seems that they are not quite constant, and so <Serial> actually hold the value of the serial code that the user enters during installation.

In the Registry section of the InstallForge UI, you can create a new registry entry with the 'Value Data' value set to <Serial> (including the chevrons) and the user entered serial number gets written to the registry!

Just what I was looking for.

I dare say the other constants can be used in the same way... and it looks like they can also be used as arguments to any commands you choose to run at the end of the installation process.

Nice!

Hi im supper new to install forge Iv used it so far for packaging my software, but im interested in how to setup the registry and how it works I do-not know what sub key field is or what to put there . dose any one have some detailed instructions on how to setup the registry function? I see the constants have an idea from your posts on what there for but that's about it ,lol
Question are the registry option for setting new text fields in the install process ? for the user to put in?
