Using an "https://" URL, does a DNS query for a host named "https"

When I use a URL that is https, as opposed to http, VUE reports that it cannot establish a connection.
More surprisingly-- when I watch the traffic in Wireshark, I see that it does a DNS query for a host named "https" on my local domain.
That doesn't work so well...
